About event
ASPEKT and the Polish Institute in Bratislava invite to a discussion about sociologist Oľga Gyárfášová's book How We Lived in the Years of Normalization (ASPEKT 2023), which through interviews with ten women captures the everyday life in a period of unfreedom. In addition to the author, the invitation was also accepted by other actors of the Bratislava community of defiance, art theorist Zuzana Bartošová and co-publisher of samizdat Ľudmila Pastierová. Hosted by Jana Cviková.
Accompaniment event of the Everyday Courage exhibition. Poles, Slovaks and Czechs in the anti-communist opposition 1968 - 1989, which runs from November 14 in the Informal Gallery of the Polish Institute, on Klobučnická street.
The exhibition brings the stories of women who decided to oppose the communist regime in Poland and Czechoslovakia. Instead of a peaceful life, the dissidents chose the path of resistance, risk and solidarity. They were activists, editors, conspirators, couriers or organizers of underground structures - women who significantly contributed to the fall of the totalitarian system, but whom history often forgot. The exhibition shows their courage and the daily struggle for freedom, which took place in homes, on the streets and in the samizdat newsrooms. It also commemorates specific personalities who, with their perseverance, moral strength and sense of co-responsibility, contributed to the change symbolized by the year 1989.
Organized in cooperation with the Polish Institute in Bratislava.
The event was supported from public funds by the Art Support Fund.
