About event

💬 We invite you to a discussion called Pilgrims in ruins.

📅 When? 7.12. 2025,
📍 Where? Druzhba Drama Studio, Soblahovská 1508, Trenčín

✨ What will we discuss?

Ruins disrupt the relations of space and time, they break them down. But at the same time they layer them. They acquire the ability to connect the past, the present and ask about the future. We will continue with the theatrical performance Tankodróm, which is a time-lapse performance. He examines the territory and its sediments, asks about its past, present and future significance. It not only maps its historical and cultural image, but above all captures socio-political transformations. What will happen to the territory of the Bystrička tankodrome?

🎤 Guests: Katarína Marková and Marlene Ruther – performance artists
🧭 Moderator: Milo Juráni – dramaturg and theoretician

🎬 Description of the show:

Marková & Ruther (SK/DE)
TANKODRÓM: Site of rifts and tank drifts

Tankodróm is a former training ground for tanks near the Slovak town of Martin. Directly below it, there is an abandoned factory of the steel industry, Závod úžiceho strojárstva, where tanks have been produced since 1952. In the 1980s, thanks to this factory, Czechoslovakia became one of the world's leading manufacturers of tanks.

After the end of military use, the Tankodróm was formally abandoned, but in reality it became a unique cosmos occupied by various creatures and stories. Intermedia artist Katarína Marková has been exploring this space for four years and regularly invites various guests here. Last year, they explored it together with the artist Marlene Ruther.

They recognized the Tankodrom as a place that is in constant decay and currently serves as a dump for soil from the construction of the hospital. Equipped with cameras and recorders, they walked through the 50-hectare area, where instead of tank tracks, they followed the tracks of deer, strange sounds, practices or trucks loaded with tons of earth. The result is a performative video essay with which they bring Tankodróm to Bratislava.
