About event

We invite you to the next in a series of our Discussion evenings with special guests. This time, Soňa Gyarfašová and Katarína Gáliková will visit us to present their joint book entitled Nenechali sa zromít.
It was published by the Ikar publishing house at the end of last year and it is an extraordinary book that should be part of the library of anyone who is interested about the modern history of Central Europe and Slovakia in it.
Through 21 stories of political prisoners of the dark 1950s and people persecuted by the criminal communist regime illuminates for us, and above all for future generations, what those who did not agree with the direction of their homeland after the February communist coup had to undergo and endure. How suffering in dungeons and forced labor marked their lives and the fates of their families, relatives and acquaintances. And how, despite everything they've been through, they didn't let themselves be broken.
The author Soňa Gyarfášová accompanies her respondents to the places of former prisons and labor camps. Their testimonies, recorded in places of pain and death, show evil in its crystal clear form.
A very important part of the book are the portraits of its heroes, the author of which is Lučenčanka Katarína Gáliková. Some of you may remember the exhibition of photographs from the cycle of the same name, which was organized a few years ago by the Lučenec City Museum. Even during a short meeting, Katka has the power to capture and convey the destinies deeply inscribed in the faces of men and women who did not let themselves be broken and resisted. Krasimir Damjanov will accompany us in the evening.
