After the fall of communism, two main interpretations of dissent settled very quickly. On the one hand, there was a myth of dissent (occasionally gaining the power of cult) as a force that overthrowed the communist dictatorship. Against him, the dissent was a handful of idealistic intellectuals who were completely cut off from ordinary people. Although in fact, the dissent represents far more diverse and rugged terrain, these two competing views are largely prevailing to this day.
