FÁNDLY or A Brief History of Failure
A story about the life journey of a Catholic priest, writer, enlightener and folk healer Juraj Fándly.
The main character is sent to earth in the 18th century, when the age of enlightenment and reason flourished in Europe. Fandly's task is clear - to help the common people get out of ignorance and cut through the vicious circle in which generations live and fall more and more. However, superstitions, rumors and a conservative way of thinking will oppose facts and logical procedures. Juraj Fándly is thus thrown into a much more difficult battle than he himself anticipated. A fanatical crowd and "peasant reason" are very powerful weapons, against which even the greatest expert or scientific capacity often cannot stand.
Divadlo Houže tries in its productions to bring the destinies of people who have fallen into the dust of history, and through their stories to create a parallel to our present.
The same is the case with the production of Fándly or A Brief History of Failure.
Although the story of this in its time an unrecognized scholar tells about the unfortunate fate and victory of the crowd, while the creators look at it with distance and insight. Truban
