Monologues
Stigma may be more dangerous than disease.
We want and we can change it.
Manic monologues are more than a game. These are real stories of real people who are connected by courage to tell about their struggle and pain, but also about hope and victory. These are stories that question your ideas about what it means to live with mental illness. Stories that break the taboo. Some are breathtaking, others fun, uplifting, strong. All are authentic, deeply interfering and most important. But above all they are needed. For all of us.
For those who think that mental problems do not concern them and never concern. And for everyone else ...
The game premiered at Stanford University Pigott Theater in Stanford, California, May 2019. Other performances took place in Des Moines, Los Angeles, New York and Tampa. In addition to the US, it was presented in Australia, UK and Kenya. For the first time in the 87-year history of this award, it was nominated for a performance that did not come to Broadway or off-Broadway. In 2020, this game was filmed in Florida in cooperation with Adventhealth. Stigmatization prevents people from seeking help and often leads to isolation that causes further harm. By eliminating negative stereotypes on mental illnesses, we can demolish barriers and open the way of help. People too often suffer themselves. Amy Freed
