DJ Workshop w/ Matthew Tsunami
Event by: Portland Blues & Jazz Dance Society (PB&J DS), Matthias Tsunami, Robert Umali Evans
Location: Southeast Portland, Portland
About event
Join us prior to this month's special house-party edition of Barefoot!
Matthew Tsunami will be sharing knowledge from their 15+ year practice of DJing for partner dancers.
As an educator Matthew believes in feeding students when workshops overlap with mealtimes. If there is enough interest, additional food (most likely soup) will be made available at no additional cost! (Please mark the option in registration form.)
Sessions:
DJ Fundamentals - DJing is an commonly misunderstood and underrecognized artform & act of service, of which the playing of music is just a small sliver. We'll cover the roles and responsibilities of DJs within dance spaces, including best practices for live sound management and song selection.
This workshop is strongly encouraged for DJs with less than 5 years of DJ experience as well as newcomers interested in learning about DJing for partner dancers.
Growing as a DJ - Receiving and incorporating feedback is a key part of growing as a DJ, especially in this unique artistic service role. This section will be a facilitated discussion for both active and upcoming DJs to share their thoughts on establishing a structure to receive feedback for their sets at PB&J events.
Schedule
5-6:30pm - Soup/Food Prep
6:30-7pm - Outdoor Mealtime
7-8pm - DJ Fundamentals
8-9pm - Growing as a DJ
Please note: As this will be sharing space with the social dance later in the night, masks will be required at this event when indoors in accordance to Barefoot's policy. Snacks & food (for those that marked their interest) will be available to eat outdoors.
Price - Free ($15-30 suggested donation)
