About event
DJAM! is the musical alliance between two master guitarists: Joep Pelt and Bounaly Traoré. As a teenager, Joep moved to his musical heroes in Mississippi and realized music projects in Mali, South Africa and Ethiopia. With his eclectic guitar playing, Joep effortlessly builds bridges between various musical worlds. Bounaly, Northern Mali's greatest guitar talent, mixes hypnotic sounds of the Sahel with exciting rhythms of the capital Bamako. Drummer Randell Sambo and bassist Kyan Sambo bring modern soul/funk influences and Caribbean rhythms. The result? An adventurous musical mix where standing still is not an option!
DJAM! takes its name from what dancers shout to each other on the dance floor in Northern Mali, which literally means 'happiness'. Residents of Bounaly's native village of Niafunké cherish this understanding despite the difficult living conditions. The music of DJAM! sheds a human light on the crisis in Northern Mali and unites the audience with a universal message of love and solidarity. Let DJAM! on an enchanting musical journey to the borderland between different musical worlds.
