Dmitrij Kapitelman: "Russische Spezialitäten"

Dmitrij Kapitelman will present his current book “Russian specialties” on October 22nd. His novel about family and the (un) possibility of understanding in times of old and new wars is on the longlist of the German Book Prize 2025. The journalist Georgina Fakunmoju is moderating the evening. Wodka, Pelmeni, SIM cards, matroses shirts-and somehow Eastern European feeling of togetherness. The latter has not been available to Ukraine since the Russian attack. The mother stands alongside Putin. And her son, who no longer loves language than the Russian, no longer desperately desperately a person than his mother, but also no city. It is not wise from him to return to Ukraine in the middle of the war. But what should he do if there is no other way to bring mom back from fascism and the crazy Russian television? A book, as only Dmitrij Kapitelman can write it: tragic, tender and funny at the same time.

dmitrij chapterman, born in 1986 in Kyjiw, came to Germany with his family at the age of eight. He studied political science and sociology at the University of Leipzig and completed the German journalist school in Munich. Today he works as a freelance journalist. His first successful book “The smile of my invisible father” was published in 2016, for which he won the Klaus-Michael Kühne Prize. In 2021, “A Formalie in Kiev” followed, for which he was awarded the Family Romance Book Prize of the Ravensburger Verlag.

Georgina Fakunmoju is a TV journalist and book reviewer at Cosmo Radio. In her literature podcast "Readers Gonna Read" (formerly "My Poc Bookshelf"), she mostly discussed author of Color from Germany, Africa and African Diaspora.
