About event
We invite you to a discussion with the Czech writer Marek Torčík →
The winner of the Magnesia Litera prize for prose with his prose debut Rozlóžiš pamětu aroused interest not only in his native Czech Republic, but his book also managed to resonate in many other countries, which they are preparing its translation. The hero of his prose literally breaks down his memory, just like when we look at old photographs and look for small details that often reveal more than what is apparent at first glance. He talks about his mother, father and grandfather, about bullying, alcoholism and coping with a different sexual orientation. It breaks down into individual parts not only own memories, but also the collective memory of the whole family.
Marek Torčík (1993) is a poet, writer and publicist. He comes from Přerov, lives in Prague, where he studied Anglophone literature and culture at the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University. His poetry collection Rhizoma was published in 2016. In 2018 and 2020, he won a prize in the Básne SK/CZ poetry competition. His prose debut, Rozložíš paměstí, was published in 2022 by the Paseka publishing house.
The discussion and author's reading with Marek Torčík is moderated by Michal Tallo.
Entrance to the event is free.
