About event
Movement is more important than home. The ghost of car accidents and roads winds through the stories. Cars transform bodies and landscapes, but they also enable escape. For some, the car is home.
We invite you to the author's presentation of Dominika Moravčíková's book Moment of Power on Monday, June 29. to Košice Artfor on Hlavná ul. 87
The debate is moderated by Mária Klapáková.
An exhausted tater girl in a small town is looking for her moment of strength, a mother and daughter whose survival is helped by a psychedelic drink, a former skier who gets stuck at the Čertovica mountain pass during a storm, and a woman who stumbles upon an error in the family tree during a family celebration.
Dominika Moravčíková (1992) is the author of the book poems Children of Hamelna (2020, published by Skalná ruza, Ivan Krask Award for debut, Tatra banka Foundation Award) and short story collection House for the Deer (2022, published by KK Bagala, Panta Rhei Awards). Moment of Power is her third book. She won several awards for her poems and prose. In 2025, she became the recipient of a Fulbright scholarship, during which she completed a research stay at The University of Chicago.
The illustrations consist of drawings from the tattoo studio of the visual artist Bronislava Orlicka – her work is mainly dominated by painting and drawing, which are characterized by subtle color transitions and minimalism. In addition to these traditional media, he often works with open-source knitting on home machines from the 90s, which he controls using an Arduino microcontroller and the AYAB program.
The event is organized by Košice Artforum in cooperation with the publisher KK Bagal and was financially supported by the LITA Fund.
Entrance is voluntary.
We look forward to seeing you at the bookstore📚
