About event
"Club Invites", asks annual dance makers with whom we feel related to, to make new work. In this fourth edition: a Double Bill (two performances on one evening) with Barnaby Booth and Lunatics & Poets.
Barnaby Booth | A Funny Little Show About Endings
Inspired by the Happy Endings in sitcoms such as Friends, Will & Grace and Seinfeld, choreographer Barnaby Booth creates a humoristic dance performance with a Lynchain Twist. Choreographer also gifted light designer, previously collaborated with Club Guy & Roni’s Poetic Disasters Club for the show "Like a Prayer", which was shown on the Parade in 2023. The production was praised by NRC and de Volkskrant, among others and was even part of the prestigious final gala of the Parade.
Lunatics & Poets | Village Storm
In "Village Storm", Lunatics & Poets explore the world of desire. Instinctive desires anchored in humans. But desires arising from society also fueled by advertisements, social media and celebrity culture. Inspired by the bundle "A Village Life" by Louise Glück and theories of philosopher René Girard about "borrowed" desires - and our desire for imitation of the person we admire - a penetrating portrait about how desire plays a role in our daily lives and how it affects our identity. As recognizable as confronting.
Anna Jacobs and Hanna van der Meer are known for their impressive decor and costume designs and their cinematic visual language. For Club Invites 2022-23, they previously created the poetic collage performance Postcards from a Better Place.
The dancers in these performances are part of the Poetic Disasters Club - the Junior Company of Club Guy & Roni.
