The Prague Center of Jewish Studies and the Department of the Middle East of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, cordially invite you to a lecture by Dr. Roni Cohen about the unique work of medieval Jewish literature Dance of the Players, the only known medieval Jewish parody treatise on philosophy that thematizes the philosophical importance of the ball.

Roni Cohen works at Goethe University in Frankfurt nad Mohan. In his research, he focuses on the Jewish literature of the Middle Ages, especially on genre and cultural overlaps between religion, philosophy and literary parody. In his lecture, he will present the work of Dance of the Players for the first time, which originated anonymously in Provence at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries and enables a new view of the relationship between philosophy, parody and religion in the Jewish youth culture of the late Middle Ages.
