Vahid is a former political prisoner who works as a car mechanic. One evening, a man comes into the workshop whose prosthetic leg is making a familiar creaking sound. A sound that was associated in his memories with the dreaded torturer in prison. Vahid kidnaps the man to bury him alive in the desert. However, she soon begins to doubt the man's identity. He had never seen his face. And so he connects with other victims of his torture, who are supposed to help him with his identification.

The film won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes IFF and is nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
