About event
Nippelsuse settles accounts with gender nominations or strikes back.
On a plot level, this is the nightly tour de force with which she takes on the lazy stupidity and the wimps who find themselves irresistible. With the aggressively self-confident femininity and the experimental narrative style, she also hits against the boring mainstream of the same stereotypical images (of German narrative cinema)
which perpetuates a gender image that has little to do with gender reality.
Marion Niplowski leaves her boyfriend and finds herself homeless on the street after a night of drinking.
Acute housing shortage in Berlin (big city) forces her to do this to rent a commercial space. Inspired by the private detective book she reads, she lists her business as a private detective. The first case is not long in coming. Her investigation leads her into a dubious murder case.
To prove her innocence, she creates a diary with her camera. Marion Niplowski tells the story in a comic-like and carnivalesque exaggeration of her character (only thin with nipples on) that is great fun, makes the viewer root for the character inside and is simply brilliant in its iconic memorability. Drop Out therefore fits into the canon of subversive female filmmaking, with the verve of an anarchism that is powerful, but not angry, but full of self-confident, ironic play.
Even if Nippelsuse doesn't always know what happened: Beatrice Manovski and her character always know what they are doing.
