About event
In the Paradox Hemisphere.
‘The Kittish Slave’, which serves as an image for Druuna Jaguar's recent album - ‘en transi’ [Variz. 2024]. ‘The Kittage Slave’, statue of Miguel Ângelo, who in the description of Jorge Mantas named after Druuna Jaguar, ‘is able to transmit a strange sexual energy in his luxurious possession’ and is at the same time sounding soundly in a state of musical trance.
and ‘Music for Theater 2009 - 2022’ by José Alberto Gomes, edited by Wasser Basin. A very small anthology of the vast work for theater of the Porto musician. The non -compliance of a sound body, the intrinsic beauty of the discontinuities of a time that passes - the real and the staged and never by this order or its reverse. The paradox of joining different associations. The paradox in the stubbornness of wanting to listen to live music. Contemplation - Introspection.

Jorge Mantas (n. 28/09/1972) | Born in Évora in 1972, he has been dedicated himself since the early 1990s to the dissemination of the so-called “exceptional songs” through various radio programs and “neural therapy” and “psychustics” fanzines.
Without academic musical formation, but with many years of research and listening attentive, it started its first musical experiences in 2005 with the Electronic Environmental Music Project The Beautiful Schizophonic, exploring in depth the affective properties of sound through long weather movements. It has released more than a dozen albums in US publishers, Japan, France and Portugal, of which stand out «Musicamorando» (CD Crónica, 2007), «Erotikon» (CD Crónica, 2009), «Belkiss» (CD Dynamophone, 2012) and «L'telier des Filles» (CD Anywave, 2016). He also composed music for shorts of short films, created audio-visual installations, and acted live, at festivals and solo, in London (ICA), Paris (Galerie Crèvecoeur), Toulouse (Théâtre Garonne) and, in Portugal, at Casa da Música, São Bento da Vitória, Lx Factory, theater Maria Matos, Church, S. Cinema Passos Manuel, among other places.
With the Druuna Jaguar project, founded in 2017, aesthetic orientation changed radically by incorporating in its musical language elements of more visceral noise, but also of concrete music, never abandoning all its fascination with mercurial drones. After a pair of cassettes launched (and quickly sold out) at the publisher itself, Atelier 5-7-5, which include international compilation and splits with noise eminences such as Vomir and Tortering Nurse, Druuna Jaguar has moved to more cleaned and dark sounds, leaving his magnetic impression in the "Utopian" muse, 2020), " RT & Leopold, 2020), «Eternal Return» (Cassette Robert & Leopold, 2022), and «EN Transi» (LP Variz, 2024). In the present musical desiderate, it proposes a spectral atmosphere based on its fascination with electric organ drones, extensive acoustic instruments (trumpet, tenor trombone, cello, violin, among others) with computer resource, and the expansion of sound synthesizer sounds, with particular focus on chromatic scale and techniques such as granular, self -reactive and generous synthesis. Liturgical Music for Modular Synthesizer and Computer?
Between 2019 and 2020 was a programmer of the Serial - International Exploratory Music Festival of Évora - having invited some of the most reputed names in the electronic and experimental music scene for eborenses.

About the album “en transi” (flur, September 2024):
«Without doing records at random and always with objects of study in mind, Druununa Jaguar is one of the largest musical enigmas in Portugal. Each album is a manifest will to grab a moment, lately always through the continuous sound, such as drones, reverberated and dragged to its exhaustion, testing the most unruly listener's attention - there is always this illusion that nothing (or little) changes, but it is in the small nuances of this sound that the true movements of false. Druuna Jaguar, in one of his latest editions, under the title "Utopian Musa", intended to illustrate female seduction, the strength of desire and its object, the unknown inspiration in view. "EN Transi" looks more like a portrait of frustration that comes from this intangibility. However, everything passes. On side A, "Postmum Omne Altealium sad is" hides the vulgarity of Latin coitus and a shy drone that reveals and opening, with rough edges, with insistent suspension and without great concern about our discomfort - nature, and what is natural, are often uncomfortable. The shades multiply, just like a channel opening of light in a thin tunnel. In the middle of the route, the drone vibrates slowly, which sensation of the earthquake's simulacrum to shake our four walls - until a serious, resounding grade erases the definitive obstacle of our transition to a second stage. On side B, Druuna Jaguar resorts to the drone of a cello (or the rhizome of one) to illustrate death and other elements of a more dishwise character. "In Umbra Mortis" shows the natural harmonics of this instrument in a prolonged reverberation, revealing light, color and hope, keeping the listener's eyes in the sight of the ground and in a act of respect and contemplative reverence. "Adverse infrasting" reveals general synthesis in a controlled randomness, with a serious grade suspended behind this electronic confusion to anchor the tone of the theme in the background. At the end of the album, "Saturata Dolorem" presents again an acute and rough drone, as an incision of a cold knife, living up to the title of the song. “EN Transi” does not escape the truth and presents a world that is close to all those who live and breathe - it is in the most worldly topics that are the greatest truths. Like the cover that represents it, the music illustrates the moment when life begins to disappear from the current body, with the diaphanous sensation of the air that touches us at the fingertips, which slave dying to find at the time of death its long -awaited climax. It works with real-time surveillance systems using multi-chamber cameras, cassette cameras and other discarded electronic objects that witness error and imperfection as aesthetic elements. Through the confrontation between distorted images and the manipulation of systems that are simultaneously obsolete and avant-garde, investigates the limits of categories such as live-cinema, video art, video-performance and VJING. Thus seeks not only the construction of immersive experiences, but the creation of a space where disorder and uncertainty become fundamental to aesthetic experience. Its creative process acts as a metaphor for deconstruction, where the visual object dissolves to reveal the invisible mechanisms that support it.
