About event

SK, CZ 2018, 90 min., Omeu. Directed by Laco Halama with: Adrian Jastraban, Jiří Zapletal, Vladimír Hrabal and a.

Alexander Dubček is still a symbol of the Prague spring. The film accompanies him on his last trip from Bratislava to Prague: a journey on which he reviews the decisive stations of his life. In the spring and summer of 1968, he led the reform movement, which sought democratization of socialism until the troops of the Warsaw Pact violently ended the departure. A little later, Dubček experienced the dramatic days in Moscow, where he was put under pressure together with other leading politicians to sign the so -called Moscow protocols. This was followed by political isolation in which he was exposed to constant surveillance and humiliation.

Director Laco Halama combines archive material with triggered scenes and thus creates the multi -layered portrait of a politician who believed in the possibility of "socialism with human face". Without idealizing him, the film Dubček shows as people with hopes, doubts and tragic breaks. His car accident, which is still unexplained today, becomes a symbol of the end of a great political and personal utopia.
