Conference: Due Diligence and Labor Rights - Implementation, Expectations and Perspectives along the Supply Chain
The conference brings together experts, political decision-makers, trade union representatives and civil society actors from Germany, Europe and the Global South to discuss the current status and future of due diligence in the area of human rights. As part of this, we will examine the implementation and impact of the German Supply Chain Act and the EU Directive on Due Diligence for Sustainable Corporate Governance (CSDDD), highlight the crucial role of trade unions in implementation and exchange perspectives on challenges and best practices along global supply chains.
Conference language is English. Unless otherwise stated in the agenda, interpretation into German will be provided throughout the conference.

This panel discussion will discuss the status of the EU Directive on Due Diligence for Companies (CSDDD) and the German Supply Chain Act (LkSG) with a focus on implementation, impacts and policy implications. Experts from various sectors discuss compliance challenges, legal developments and enforcement mechanisms from the perspective of the Global South and taking into account the realities on the ground.

This panel highlights the critical role that unions play in shaping and enforcing human rights due diligence. The discussions will address practical experiences, successes, structural barriers and the need for worker-focused approaches in both the Global North and the Global South.

Implementation of the German Supply Chain Act - Challenges and Best Practices
A discussion about the practical implementation of the German Supply Chain Act with a focus on lessons learned, ongoing challenges and examples from the Global South. Topics include risk analysis, grievance mechanisms and effective engagement with affected communities.

a. Union Busting and Due Diligence: When Workers Are Silenced
This session will examine how anti-union practices hinder due diligence in supply chains. Case studies from several countries illustrate resistance strategies and call for structural changes.
b. How effective are voluntary measures in the area of HRDD? (No German translation)
A critical examination of voluntary human rights due diligence initiatives, their effectiveness and their limits. It is being discussed whether such approaches can replace binding regulations or merely serve as an alibi function.
