About event
“I have always considered the Duke Ellington Orchestra to be one of the greatest works of art in the history of music. The longevity, intimacy and power of their music remain unsurpassed." Wynton Marsalis - New York Times
Last year celebrated the 100th anniversary of The Duke Ellington Orchestra - the only orchestra that can officially bear the name of the legendary American musician Edward "Duke" Ellington, the greatest jazz composer of the twentieth century. Duke personally conducted the orchestra for over 50 years, between 1923 and 1974.
In 2025, the Duke Ellington Orchestra will hold three exclusive concerts in the Czech Republic, specifically in Brno, Prague and Pardubice. These performances will be the only opportunities to experience the masterful jazz interpretations of this orchestra in the Czech Republic that year. The concerts promise to be unforgettable events for jazz lovers and are a testament to the lasting legacy of Duke Ellington's genius. It will surely be one of the greatest jazz experiences here in 2025.
Ellington's career, which spanned more than five decades, included over two thousand compositions, among which are "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)", "Mood Indigo", "Sophisticated Lady" and many, many more. As one of the most famous African-American figures of the last century, Duke Ellington influenced millions around the world and at home, and his talent for melody and mastery of texture, rhythm and composition are unsurpassed in jazz history.
