About event
On Saturday at 8:30 p.m., we invite you to the theater performance BECOMING DIFFERENT presented by the PRAKTIKABEL theater association. The show will take place in the premises of the former Baťa store at Námestí SNP 16. 🎭
🎟️ Capacity is limited to 40 seats, so we recommend buying tickets in advance at: https://goout.net/sk/stat-sa-inym/szvcjnx/ (€7)
The production is loosely inspired by the literary work of the French author Édouard Louis, who in merciless narratives thematizes the misery of childhood and adolescence of a queer person in the homophobic and racist environment of the working class in the French countryside.
However, these stories are not intended to dishonor the lower classes, on the contrary, they make visible the given social habitus and its causes. It is also about social inequality, violence, but especially about finding one's own path to freedom. The method of criticism in his works is multi-layered, and the reader is thus faced with complex ethical dilemmas.
The main character of the story of the production Becoming Different has been bullied since childhood, he grows up in a family where the guy is supposed to be the right tough guy and that overlooks his needs, they want him to fit in. And so he tries to change himself and suppress his personality.
Can a person constantly change without losing himself? How far should one go in search of identity and freedom in an environment where social norms and expectations oppress individuality? How do these norms and expectations shape identity and what impact do they have on decisions and life paths? The production refers to the importance of self-acceptance and the courage to be authentic, even if it means confronting social norms, family or even oneself.
Creative team:
Screenplay: collective
Director : Matej Feldbauer
Dramaturgy: Zuzana Strnátová
