This concert by the male voice ensemble Sonat Vox remembers the victims of the Holocaust and focuses on works that make hope, faith and memory audible in times of greatest darkness. Angela Winkler's interpretation of the Sintessa monologue from THE WHEEL OF HAPPINESS by Werner Fritsch merges in a special way with the musical atmosphere of the concert and thus expands the sound space of memory with a haunting, human voice.

Ukrainian Institute:

Friday, January 30th, 2026 - 8:00 p.m. - Sophienkirche

Concert and performance

Yuriy Gurzhy and Mariana Sadovska

Room conception: Anna Mesniankina

Single ticket price: €15 (Eventbrite)

Box office: €20

About the Performance:
The duo develops a repertoire of their own compositions, traditional songs and settings of Jewish-Ukrainian poetry from different eras. Hasidic nigunim glide into Ukrainian folk tunes, village wedding melodies turn into incantations, and the drones of Sadovska's keyboard intertwine with Gurzhy's electric guitar lines, fragmented beats and sampled echoes of the past. The music of the two becomes a vibrating navigation system through a labyrinth of identities in which memory is a living being, sometimes uncomfortable, often demanding, always indispensable.
