Idea of the project and why “Pomegranate”? Since I was a child, I have brought pomegranates from Baku to my foreign teachers and friends - it has now become a bit of a tradition. Excitingly, my name, N(a)rmin, also connects me with this fruit: the first syllable “Nar” means “pomegranate” in Azerbaijani, so there has always been a special inner connection to it. That's why I wanted to title this project "A Note Inside the Pomegranate" - because every piece of music is like a pomegranate seed: it contains its own world, its own taste, its own feeling. The audience is actively involved in the evening with interesting facts and stories. This piano solo concert does not focus exclusively on one composer. Instead, a selected program will be presented, including works by various Azerbaijani composers that I have performed frequently over the years and which have been particularly well received by the audience, as well as some of my favorite European works. Today, musical evenings that focus on exchange, encounters and sharing are becoming increasingly important - in contrast to formal concerts. This is exactly the atmosphere I want to create: a combination of music, conversation and experience. Pomegranate-related accessories and the fruit itself are also used as decorative elements.
Born in Baku, Azerbaijan, Narmin Najafli began playing the piano at the age of four. She made her orchestral debut with the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra at the age of eight. She also received her first international award at the age of eight at the International Rotary Competition in Moscow. Since her childhood, her concert activity has spanned renowned stages from Paris to Washington. Because of her great love for F. Chopin, she won several first prizes at international Chopin competitions. At the age of 17, Narmin moved to Germany and studied at the Hannover University of Music, Theater and Media (HMTMH) with Professor Bernd Goetzke. After completing her studies, she began teaching piano at the HMTMH and further in Berlin and supervised over 50 international students. Narmin worked as a soloist at the Hanover State Opera for three years and is currently continuing her artistic work in Berlin. Internationally, she has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras, including the Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana, NSO Hannover and the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra, in major concert halls in Europe, from UNESCO Paris to filharmonias in Lithuania, Estonia and other countries. Her artistic work has been enriched by master classes with pianists such as Robert McDonald, Michel Beroff, Andrea Bonatta, Muza Rybackyte and Alexander Kobrin. She is the winner of numerous competitions and has been honored with the “Live Music Now” scholarship, the “Youth of the Year” prize in Azerbaijan and was included in the Golden Book of Azerbaijan.
