About event
The unicorn is magical. It is not shown in any zoo, its occurrence is not documented anywhere, and yet it is ubiquitous - in pop culture, advertising or in children's rooms. The fascination with the unicorn is not a new phenomenon. It goes back centuries, even millennia, and is anchored in many cultures. In Europe it was considered a symbol of Christ or an allegory of chastity, it was a medical miracle cure, a jewel in art chambers and a research object in the early stages of natural science.
The exhibition "Unicorn. The mythical animal in art" in the Museum Barberinishows in around 150 works how artists have depicted the unicorn over time. From medieval manuscripts to precious tapestries to baroque allegories and pop culture - the chapters lead from the religious and medical interpretations of the unicorn to its current role as an object of longing and cult.
Special loans include a restored tapestry from the 15th century from the Church of St. Gotthardt in Brandenburg an der Havel as well as a painting by Francisco de Zurbarán from the Museo del Prado, which impressively shows the baroque symbolism of the mythical animal.
Annette has been looking forward to this exhibition for a very long time and can hardly wait to introduce it to you on a guided tour. Together we will follow the traces of this mysterious creature - and of course also the question of whether unicorns actually exist.
Afterwards there is the opportunity to end the evening with a relaxed meal together. Please let us know if we can accommodate you so that we can reserve a table.
The admission price includes:
- Entry to the Barberini Museum (please let us know if you have an annual ticket so that we can take this into account in the price)
- Guided tour of the exhibition by Annette Schneider
- Supervision and exchange with the ART team BREAKERS and like-minded people
