About event
The new year traditionally begins for the Berlin Missionswerk with the Epiphany service in the St. Marienkirche on Alexanderplatz. As in previous years, the service will be celebrated together with the Gossner Mission.
The sermon will be given by Prof. Dr. Julia Helmke, general superintendent for the Berlin district of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia since July 2025. Previously, among other things, she was the cultural representative of the Hanover regional church and headed the “Church in Dialogue” department. From 2017 to 2021 she worked as general secretary of the German Evangelical Church Congress. She then returned to Hanover and helped shape the focus of church services, church music and spiritual life.
After the service, Bishop Dr. Christian Stäblein in St. Mary's Church looks back on the year 2025 and the work of both mission organizations. Afterwards, the Berliner Missionswerk and the Gossner Mission invite you to a reception in the Red Town Hall. The evening will be accompanied musically by Moses, a former inward volunteer from the Berlin Mission from Kenya.
