About event
Dear friends, members of the German-Polish Society Berlin!
The year 2025 is coming to an end. As a society, we once again had a whole series of important and successful activities that we can look back on with satisfaction. We want to see you again at the end of the year! We have thought of something special for this.
We invite all members and the circle of friends of the German-Polish Society Berlin to a German-Polish cultural evening with the “Reed Connection Trio” and with poem recitations from Julian Tuwim and Gertrud Kolmar by Uwe Neumann and Anette Daugardt.
A short annual review of the German-Polish Society Berlin 2025
At our general meeting in April we made individual changes to the composition of our board. In succession to Felix Bethmann, who left the board for professional reasons, Michael Karnetzki was elected as the new co-chair alongside Anita Baranowska-Koch. Jakob Reinhold took over the treasurer's office from Lilianna Russ. And Hans-Joachim Hacker as the new deputy chairman and Torsten Thieme as owner completed the board. Unfortunately, our assessor Małgorzata Gemen had to resign from her board position in the summer. She has taken on a new, important professional task, which unfortunately cannot be combined with her work on the board of the German-Polish Society in Berlin. We wish her much success in her new role and are pleased that she remains connected to our company.
We would like to name just a few of our activities this year (without claiming to be exhaustive).
At the beginning of May, more than 30 people came to Szczecin for a beautiful and interesting visit with two first-class classical concerts, one of them in the Szczecin Philharmonic.
More came on August 21st 180 guests came to the embassy for our event held together with the Polish embassy in Berlin to mark the 45th anniversary of the founding of the independent Solidarność trade union. We had an extremely exciting discussion with the charge d'affaires of the Republic of Poland Jan Tombinski, the historian Ilko-Sascha Kowalczuk and the director of the European Solidarity Center (ESC) Basil Kerski in Gdansk, which was moderated by Gosia Gemen.
And just a few days later we visited Basil Kerski in Gdansk with a group of around 20 people. Participation in the celebrations for the 45th anniversary of Solidarity on August 31, 2025 and participation in the commemorations on September 1st at 4:45 a.m. on the “Westerplatte” and at noon at the Polish Post Office in Gdansk to commemorate the anniversary of the German attack on Poland in 1939 were the highlights of this trip.
At the end of September a senior group visited Treptow-Köpenick's Warsaw partner district Mokotów Berlin to take part in the Treptow-Köpenick “Senior Olympics”. As the German-Polish Society, we had the opportunity to help shape the visit program. And we are pleased that an idea that arose during our visit to Warsaw last year was put into action so quickly, namely not only thinking about German-Polish youth exchange, but also thinking about senior citizens.
On September 30, 2025, in cooperation with the Federal Foundation for Coming to terms with the SED Dictatorship, we will be holding an exciting discussion event about the different ways of coming to terms with it under the title “Shared Remembering”. during the Nazi era in Poland and the two German states. Funded by the Berlin State Center for Civic Education.
And in addition to these highlights of our work, we have also tried to intensify the involvement of our members. The new format of our regular get-together served this purpose. Now at different locations and on different days of the week. The regular attendance of 20 to 30 people showed that there is a great need for this opportunity for informal exchange.
Admission is free.
Afterwards we invite you to a small snack, drinks and conversation. We look forward to seeing you and you!
With kind regards
Anita Baranowska-Koch, Michael Karnetzki and the other members of the board
