About event

Main topics
The webinar is focused on current issues of ecodesign from the point of view of valid European legislation.

The European Commission, in an effort to further reduce Europe's carbon footprint and energy prices for European consumers, adopted new measures on 1 October 2019 in areas of ecodesign for products such as refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers and televisions. Improving the eco-design of products contributes to the application of the principle of primacy of energy efficiency, which is an EU priority in the area of the Energy Union.

These measures for the first time include requirements for repairability and recyclability, thus contributing to the objectives of the circular economy by improving the lifetime of appliances, their maintenance, reuse, modernization, recyclability and waste management. Certain products must meet minimum energy efficiency requirements. These requirements are referred to as ecodesign requirements and their aim is to reduce the negative impact of the product on the environment throughout its life cycle. .

These regulations currently apply to those types of products that use energy (boilers, computers, household appliances, etc.).
No value limits are set in the general requirements, however, require that:

the product is "energy efficient" or "recyclable",
information is provided on how to use and maintain the product in such a way as to minimize its impact on the environment,< br/>an analysis of the life cycle of the product was carried out in order to identify improvement and alternative design solutions.
The consequence of the introduction of new minimum requirements may be a ban on the sale of all non-compliant products in EU member states. An example is traditional filament light bulbs, the sale of which has been gradually discontinued since 2009.

Special requirements include exact values and value limits. For example, maximum energy consumption or minimum amounts of recycled material used in production.
