About event
In 1975, Europe's last fascist dictator died: Francisco Franco. His death cleared the way for a rebellious youth in Spain who had a lot to catch up on. But the exiled fighters from the Spanish Civil War also returned. In this phase of the so-called "Transición", the transition from dictatorship to bourgeois democracy, everything seemed possible - even the dream of ending the revolution of 1936.
The film focuses on Franco's most bitter opponents: the anarchists and syndicalists. Their organization, the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT), a crucial factor in Spanish society until Franco's victory, experienced a renaissance. In just two years, a clandestine underground organization became a mass movement again. She organized meetings with hundreds of thousands of participants, libertarian days, strikes and resistance against the new liberal capitalism.
However, this awakening was quickly undermined not only by internal conflicts, but was also massively sabotaged by secret service interventions. »El entusiasmo« is also the story of a defeat.
In the presence of contemporary witness Felipe Orobón. As part of »¡Franco ha muerto! Film evening on the 50th anniversary of the death of the Spanish dictator «: https://lichtblick-kino.org/reihe/franco-ha-muerto-2025/el-entusiasmo/
