About event

For the 140th anniversary of the birth of the "First Lady of the World" Eleanor Roosevelt, the Theater in Reznické is preparing the premiere of Mark St.'s latest play. Germaine - Eleanor.

In her day, Eleanor Roosevelt was the most powerful woman in America. She was adored by millions while the FBI closely watched her every move. In her speeches, Eleanor Roosevelt fought for civil rights. As the wife of the 32nd US President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the longest-serving first lady, she supported all his activities, participating in the election campaign until the media made fun of her as a Roosevelt henchman. Today, Roosevelt is among the most popular women in American history. She actively participated in the creation of several institutions under the auspices of the United Nations. She led an eight-member committee that worked for two years on the draft text of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. When presenting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to the United Nations General Assembly, Eleanor Roosevelt declared, "Today we stand on the threshold of an event of momentous significance both for the United Nations and for each of us." However, the privacy of the presidential couple was quite different. While the 32nd President of the United States Franklin Roosevelt maintained an affair with attractive secretary Lucy Mercer, his wife Eleanor had a long-term lesbian relationship with journalist Lorena Hickok. However, this only came to light after Eleanor's death.
