The Dutch Bram Appel was at the beginning of his football career when he was deported to Germany by the Nazis for forced labor.

in Berlin he had to work in a factory and survived numerous air raids. However, his football talent made life easier for him because Hertha BSC took him into the first team. The top scorer gave the club a trophy. After the war, Bram Appel in the Netherlands was hostile to his game in a German club.

The sports journalists Martijn Schwillens and Bob Thomassen researched the life path of Bram Appel and wrote a "rehabilitation".
