About event

Guitarist and singer Elijah Wald was born in 1959 in the state of Massachusetts and at an early age fell the magic of folk and blues. Inspired by personalities like Woody Guthrie, Mississippi John Hurt and Dave Van Ronk soon began to perform publicly. His interest in traditional and world music has led him to study ethnomusicology and to deeper cognition of musical cultures across continents. He played in cafes, bars, concert halls and large festivals - from New Orleans to Chicago, Tokyo, Salzburg or Sydney. It moves in style between blues, folk, ragtim, swing, country, but also Mexican corridos. He has released several author albums, the most important of which are Milk Cow Blues (1988), Street Corner Cowboys (1995) and Hitchhiking With the Blues (2000). They all carry his typical features - a masterful guitar game, a deep knowledge of the genre and an authentic approach to the musical tradition. His books such as Escaping The Delta: Robert Johnson and the Invention of the Blues or How the Beatles Destroyed Rock 'N' Roll: An alternative History of American Popular Music offer an original view of popular music history. His work was awarded a number of professional recognitions, including the Grammy Award for the accompanying text on the CD Box set The Arhoolie Foundation.

Its performance as part of the Blues Alive Tour 2025 concert series will offer not only an exceptional musical experience, but also a deep insight into the history of blues and folk - and the places where music becomes a way of life. Mississippi.

As a special guest, the Heysek Twins formations will perform.
