What is “Queering Möbelmuseum”? A search for queer people or queer stories behind objects that are presented to us as naturally heteronormative. Whose hands used this furniture? What stories do they contain beyond their aesthetic qualities?

What can I expect on the tour? We wander through the furniture museum and ask uncomfortable questions: What do the objects on display tell us - and what do they hide? Queer people have inhabited, used, and loved these spaces. Their traces are there - you just have to learn to read them.

How do we go about this? Where queer traces are visible, we bring them to light. Where they are missing, we ask: Why? And we appropriate the narratives – through reinterpretation, counter-narrative and productive imagination. Because that is also a queer tradition.

Do I have to have previous knowledge? No. Curiosity is enough - about furniture, history and the people behind it.

What does the tour have to do with the ESC? It takes place on the occasion of the 70th ESC 2026 in Vienna. ESC and the queer community have been connected for decades - this is also reflected in this search for clues.
