Etsuko Hirose, born in Nagoya, Japan, began taking piano lessons at the age of three and was already playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 26 with an orchestra at the age of six. After studying at the École Normale de Musique de Paris and at the Paris Conservatory in the class of Bruno Rigutto and Nicholas Angelich, she was supported by Alfred Brendel, Marie-Françoise Bucquet and Jorge Chaminé. Etsuko Hirose is a winner of renowned international competitions such as the Frederic Chopin Competition for Young Pianists, Moscow, the G. B. Viotti Competition and the Munich ARD Competition. In 1999 she won first prize at the Martha Argerich Competition, which launched her solo career. She has made guest appearances in, among others, the Herkulessaal Munich, the Kennedy Center Washington, the Teatro Colon Buenos Aires as well as the Suntory Hall and the Orchard Hall in Tokyo and has been accompanied by leading orchestras. Her performances are regularly broadcast, particularly on Arte, France 3, France Musique, Radio Classique and NHK. Numerous recordings for Denon, Mirare, Warner, Danacord and Continuo Classics document her work; her most recent recording “Scheherazade” was released by Danacord in 2024.
