About event
The civic association EuroPolicy and the EURACTIV Slovakia portal, in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, the office in Bratislava and the Research Center of the Slovak Society for Foreign Policy, invite you to a discussion entitled Boring, Good, Bad... Our Europe. The event will take place on November 24, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the premises of the STU University Center at Imricha Karvaša 4 in Bratislava.
ABOUT THE DISCUSSION
In the discussion about the European Union and Slovakia's membership in it, negative assessments are heard more and more often. On the one hand, it can be a natural development: the Union (and Slovakia as part of it) is going through a complex transformation, we are being pushed by the consequences of multiple crises, long-delayed solutions bring costs. At the same time, however, criticism is fueled by disinformation, often spread by political actors. In the discussion, we will present the results of the "Mini Convention" - a series of discussions co-organized by SFPA and FES - and we will discuss:
- What is the biggest source of Euroscepticism today? What role do factors such as crises and complex decisions made by the Union play, to what extent are disinformation a problem?
- What role does poor awareness, (political) interest and the structure of the information and media environment play in the spread of disinformation?
- How to involve critical voices in the debate about the EU in such a way that we maintain the objective, fact-based character of the debate?
PANELISTS
- Tomáš Strážay, director of the Research Center of the Slovak Society for Foreign Policy
- Michal Horský, founder and leader of the civil association DEMDIS
- Katarína Klingová, researcher, GLOBSEC
The discussion will be moderated by Zuzana Gabrižová, editor-in-chief of the EURACTIV Slovakia portal.
