The stereotype of the "crying girl" often evokes hypersensitivity or emotional overload, but crying can also be an act of power, vulnerability, radical honesty and relaxation after an emotional peak. Crying Girls embodies this through women in the "late thirties", who relive girlhood in bodies subject to decay, while we refer to the uncompromising nature of Thelma and Louise.

The work was developed by Eva Priečková and Zuzana Žabková as a continuation of their long-term collaboration on a trilogy exploring the female body, vulnerability, decay and transformation (Bodies in Trouble, 2018; Weak Women, 2023). While previous works dealt with "fossil bodies" and exhaustion, Crying Girls asks what can grow from them - sublimity, levitation and tangible mysticism.

The stage becomes a sensory landscape space: delayed choreography focuses on levitation, emergence and support, where female performers hold each other in fragile, shifting balances - fallen angels rising through tears and the hollow space of the mouth.

Unlike sudden disasters, ecological collapse occurs slowly, almost imperceptibly. Crying Girls arises from this gap - it represents grieving as a bodily practice over the loss of a more-than-human world and at the same time sings and worships this loss out loud and together.

Supported by the Art Support Fund from public sources.

The project is implemented with the financial support of the Bratislava City Foundation.

Thank you @colabs_zona and @klaudia_klembara for the residency at your place.

While previous works dealt with "fossils bodies" and exhaustion, Crying Girls asks what might grow from them—sublimity, levitation, and tangible mysticism.

The stage becomes a sensory landscape: the delayed choreography focuses on floating, emerging, and support, where the performers hold each other in fragile, shifting balances—fallen angels rising through tears and the hollow space of the mouth.

Unlike sudden catastrophes, ecological collapse unfolds slowly, almost invisibly. Crying Girls emerges from this gap—it presents mourning as a bodily practice over the loss of the more-than-human world, while simultaneously singing and honoring this loss aloud and collectively.
