About event

A piano evening awaits us in the Lapidárium gallery on Wednesday, May 13! 🎹

Student of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Eva Strejcová, who drew considerable attention not only as the only Czech participant in the prestigious International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, will sit down at the piano and lead us through a varied program of piano literature 📚

She will open the evening with a work that sounds in countless arrangements for various musical instruments. Try to count the number of times you will hear it performed by street musicians in the summer while walking around the Czech Republic... but when was the last time you heard it in an original and high-quality concert performance?

We are talking about Antonín Dvořák's seventh Humoresque, which the composer wrote during his tenure as director of the First National Conservatory in New York. In 1894, he went to Bohemia for a few weeks, and already on the way he began to compose the entire cycle of eight humoresques. It is with the seventh, the most famous, that the legend is connected, namely that the rhythm of the piece sounds like a train running on the tracks... 🚂

After Humoresque, we will want to dance to Bedřich Smetana's Three Poetic Poles. hours🍻).

Before the break, we will move to Vienna for a while and listen to the elegance, virtuosity and delicacy of the Piano Sonata in F major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

After the break, Evička will show us the mists in which Leoš Janáček wandered during the difficult period of his life, which was marked by the sadness of the loss of his daughter Olga. They paint us highly intimate and at the same time still colorful musical images full of restlessness and fragility, but their expressiveness remains slightly obscured. 🌫️

From a fragile fog, we suddenly find ourselves in the middle of Lullaby in a Storm by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in a brilliant arrangement by Arcadi Volodos. The contrast of the calmness of the swaying character is constantly disturbed by the tension of the stormy accompaniment.⛈️

The evening will end with the captivating Preludes, in which neither Sergei Rachmaninov nor Evička spare the piano, which they give an almost orchestral dimension.
✨ Come and experience an evening where one instrument can tell an infinite number of stories.
