About event
Poetry, passion and philosophy: recitation, tango and more with the sonnets of Jorge Luis Borges. Tonight the collective Feast of Poetry takes you to the wonderful world of Jorge Luis Borges. With readings in Spanish and Dutch and tango, all with and inspired by the work of Borges. The Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986) is best known for his fantastic stories. But later in life he started making sonnets, a strict verse form. Due to his increasing blindness, he could no longer read and write independently. Rhyme and rhythm facilitated the composition and dictation of his poetry. Borges also wrote poetry for the tango. Argentinian composers such as Astor Piazzolla (known for his tangos, among others) have set his poems to music. Master translator Paul Claes translated a selection of these sonnets for the collection 'Everness', which was published bilingually by publisher HetMoet in the hand-bound Singer stitch series. The collection 'Everness' – the sonnets of Jorge Luis Borges forms the core of this evening.
