Excursion to Fátima + Procession of the Candles
On this excursion to Fátima, we will leave Lisbon to visit the main pilgrimage site in Portugal and watch the exciting Procession of the Candles. You can't miss it!
Itinerary:
At the indicated time, we will meet at Praça Marquês de Pombal, where a vehicle will be waiting for us to head towards Fátima, where we will arrive after a journey of approximately one hour and twenty minutes.
We will arrive at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima, the main pilgrimage site in Portugal and one of the most famous in the world. There, we will first visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, where the tomb of the three little shepherds is located, a funeral monument of the three children who saw the Virgin Magic in this same place in 1917. You will also have free time to eat or buy some souvenirs.
Afterwards, we will go to the largest sanctuary temple in Portugal dedicated to the Holy Trinity, and we will arrive at the Chapel of Apparitions, whose pedestal of Our Lady of Fátima marks the exact place where the small holm oak tree was located where the Virgin appeared to the three little shepherds. From there, at 9:30 pm, the Candle Procession begins, where the original statue of the Virgin of Fátima is taken while the Rosary is prayed.
During the procession, the faithful gather in the Praça do sanctuary with lit candles and follow in silence the figure of the Virgin that walks along the terrace until the return to the chapel. You will be moved by the energy that the lights and prayers emanate during the procession. It will be a night in Fátima that you will never forget!
After the Candlelight Procession, we will return to Lisbon, where we will end the tour at the starting point five hours after pick up.
