About event
Marmoucha Orchestra brings Zare to life
Marmoucha Orchestra takes you on a special musical journey during the screening of Zare (1926), one of the first Armenian films that authentically depicted the lives of Kurdish and Yazidi peoples. As the story unfolds on the slopes of Mount Alagyaz, the film is accompanied live by a selection of orchestra members, with a unique interpretation that enhances melodrama, tension and emotion. The selection consists of five talented musicians from Marmoucha Orchestra with diverse backgrounds and a shared passion for the rich musical traditions of Southwest Asia, North Africa and the Mediterranean. Their music is an intriguing mix of traditional pieces and original compositions, carefully tailored to the film. Ensemble leader Maripepa Contreras created the film music by adapting her own compositions and arrangements from the broad Marmoucha repertoire. Scene-wise, space is provided for improvisation, creating a dynamic and emotionally charged soundtrack.
Enjoy a performance full of passion, drama and beauty, in which Marmoucha Orchestra lets the music speak and brings Zare back to life.
Line-up:
Delaram Kafashzadeh – vocals
Maripepa Contreras – oboe, English horn, duduk, arrangements
Adrian Moncada – piano
Arin Keshishi – bass
Udo Demandt – percussion
