In this workshop we take a look at the entanglement of gender and weight. We talk about physical satisfaction in CIS and trans people, the role of weight in transition processes as well as visibility and exclusions within the queer community. Trans -specific health care is also discussed. Together we ask: What can the inter and fat acceptance movements learn from each other? And how can there be rooms in which all bodies have space?
The speakers are Luise Gonca Demirden and Oriel Klatt:
Luise Gonca Demirden (she/her) has been a specialist for further training for weight discrimination since 2023. It has a background in political science and extensive practical experience from anti -discrimination work. Demirden is a co-organizer of community projects and is particularly committed to the topics of critical health discourses, queerness, misogynia, sexuality, fat culture, hostility to disabilities and anti-racism.
Oriel Klatt (no pronoun) is a specialist for further training in society against weight discrimination and brings a deep background in history, Gender studies and adult education into political education and anti-discrimination work. Oriel has been active in activist and community contexts for many years, with a special focus on thick_ fats, disabled, trans perspectives.
The main topics of Oriel include, among other things. Media and representation, barriers and disabilities, anti-femininity and critical masculinity, trans_inter_nich-binar perspectives, internalized stigma as well as critical health discourses.
The offer is free of charge. It is a cooperation between the projects Q*BEL - Queeres advisory center Lichtenberg and Lesbisch*. Viewable.Berlin.
The rooms of the Q*BEL are on the 3rd floor. There is an elevator, but then half a staircase still has to be overcome, which unfortunately cannot offer barrier -low access. The workshop takes place in German speakers. There are enough retreat in our rooms. Please let us know in advance what you need to take part in our offers and we are looking for a solution together.
