About event

No matter whether you are old or young, poor or rich, whether you live in Berlin, Landau in der Pfalz or in the Erzgebirgskreis - statistically speaking, you know one or more people who are affected by violence against women. A woman was affected by domestic violence 180,000 times in 2023. Stalking, psychological, digital, economic violence or attempted killings - the violence is omnipresent. Around every other day a man commits femicide, every day someone attempts it. These are dramatic conditions. But shockingly little has happened politically and in the media for years to prevent this violence.

For almost a year, journalists from the Selbstlaut collective have researched and published on this topic - from the media portrayal of femicides, to work with perpetrators, to politics. Radio pieces and articles have been published and appear on Deutschlandfunk, SWR, Medium magazine and Annabelle.

At the conference “Stop femicide?” We would like to take up this research again together with our conversation partners, those affected, activists and experts and discuss it: Why is so little happening on this topic? And what would have to happen so that women are better protected in the future?

The participants include Isabella Spiesberger (Berlin Center for Violence Prevention), Christina Clemm (specialist lawyer for family and criminal law), Henriette Wunderlich (author & survivor of an attempted femicide), Sina Niemeyer (photographer), Sibylle Schreiber (managing director of women's shelter coordination) e.V., Margherita Bettoni (journalist & Author), Petra Follmer-Otto (former Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth).
