Fat Freddy's Drop are internationally regarded as one of the world's best live bands.
This indie New Zealand band from Aotearoa formed in 1999 and grew from Wellington's underground scene into a multi-genre band that regularly sell out shows across the UK, Europe, Australia and at home.
Based on a True Story, which is their first studio album from 2005. From then until the latest record SLO MO, they bring joy and a unique alchemy of reggae, dub, soul, techno and jazz, which fans will definitely appreciate live. Celebrating the 21st birthday of the album Based on a True Story!
EN:
Fat Freddy’s Drop are internationally regarded as one of the world’s finest live draws, captivating audiences with their euphoric diaphragm-wrecking music.
The resolutely independent Aotearoa New Zealand band formed in 1999, emerging from Wellington’s underground dance music scene into a genre-bending juggernaut who regularly sell out performances across the UK, Europe, Australia and at home.
Live, their musical alchemy of reggae, dub, soul, techno and jazz is a raucously joyful experience, an undefinable sound equally respected on the likes of Freddys acclaimed debut studio album “Based On A True Story” through to their most recent release “SLO MO”.

FFD Live Review Quotes
'There isn't another act in the world doing what Fat Freddy's does... it really is a live experience like no other. Fat Freddy's Drop straddles the line between being fervently energetic and bewitchingly downtempo. They are at once unassuming and eccentric.'
Adam Tait, Gig Wise, O2 Brixton Academy review
New Zealand's funk machine gets every booty shaking *****
‘Fat Freddy’s Drop are the epitome of old school cool and continue to embody their eclectic flavor of music, lyrics and beats.’
Chelsea Paddy, Guardian, SOH
'Fat Freddy’s Drop’s live show was an exhilarating experience of genre-bending musicianship layered atop a smooth combination of reggae and techno beats. They simply make the fusion of these sounds work and have a visibly great time in doing it.'
Chloe Brinkman, Red Brick, O2 Academy Birmingham review
‘Anyone who finds themselves at a Fat Freddy’s Drop concert, no matter how they’re feeling beforehand, can’t help but lose themselves in the atmosphere the band delivers.’
Shaun Colnan, The Music, SOH review
‘…Fat Freddy’s Drop embraced the soul-funk vibe and added liberal doses of dub, reggae, techno and disco, producing a two-hour extravaganza that saw the 9,000-strong crowd morph into a sea of pulsating bodies. While jazz may not be Fat Freddy's raison d'etre, improvisation is at the core of the Wellington band's live shows, and most of their songs became extended workouts peppered with hyperactive horns, throbbing beats and psychedelic synths.'
Jessica Nicholas, The Age, Melbourne International Jazz Festival review
'…one thing Fat Freddy's never drop is the ball. Each effort is packed with quality and soul, delivered with joy and gratitude, throughout their continued evolution and experimentation… A full fat experience that’s going to nourish me for a long time.’
Adam Pickering, Left Lion, Nottingham City Live review
