We invite you to the FATS JAZZ BAND concert - on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. to the Liptovská gallery P. M. Bohúň in Liptovský Mikuláš.
FATS JAZZ BAND is a first-class nine-member orchestra that revives the tradition of hot jazz and swing from the 20s to the 40s of the last century. It was founded by Ladislav Fančovič, one of the best contemporary Slovak pianists. The orchestra plays original hot-jazz swing music that will transport you to another world, get your blood pumping and bring you back to the era of nobility, elegant robes and hot parties. The early swing period is referred to in America as the "Golden Age" because it was characterized by a huge boom in science and technology, as well as the film and entertainment industries. The feeling of euphoria of happiness and lightness of being is somehow encoded in the music.
Fats Jazz Band is authentic - Ladislav Fančovič transcribes the arrangements from the original old recordings into notes in the form of transcription. That's why you have a unique opportunity to hear exactly the arrangements that were recorded by the jazz legends in their time. Also, the reconstructed musical instruments, period clothing and the overall expression of the orchestra are in complete agreement with the period they represent.
The repertoire of the Fats Jazz Band includes the most interesting pieces from the pen of the legend of American jazz, Thomas "Fats" Waller, whose name he also borrowed the name of the orchestra. FJB also interprets the compositions of other jazz legends such as Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, Teddy Wilson, Lester Young, Clarence Williams, Gene Krupa, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee and others.
In the repertoire however, we can also find Slovak compositions of this body - foxtrots and tangos, which were made famous by the doyen of Slovak popular music František Krištof Veselý, Viera Racková or Dr. Janko Blaho and Czech compositions from the repertoire of Inka Zemánková, Jiřina Salačová and R. A. Dvorský. At the Swing evening in Liptovský Mikuláš, there will also be a unique premiere of a new staging of František Krištof Veselý's song "Even if you snap, dear friend." Its author and lyricist of popular songs, Adalbert Hudec, among other things, curated the exhibition of Slovak artists at the 1942 Venice Biennale.
The members of the Fats Jazz Band are professional top Slovak musicians and singers who work in leading orchestras and big bands such as the Slovak Philharmonic, Slovak National Theater Orchestra, Gustav Brom Big Band, Matúš Jakabčic CZ-SK Big Band or Bratislava Hot Serenaders. Fats Jazz Band regularly performs in the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Germany, France, Croatia, Italy, Denmark and Georgia and has played at the most important European jazz festivals.
