About event

They come all the way from London and bring nothing less than one of the most exciting string evenings of the year!! 🎻

Fibonacci Quartet will be presented to you on Monday 8 June in the Lapidárium gallery. Four unique musicians rank among the leading young string quartets in Europe. They gave concerts all over Europe and in a moment they will be here too 🥹🙌

In addition, they are bringing to Prague a program in which four strings tell a completely different story each time...
What happens when a composer writes music for a king who plays the cello himself? It is clear that the cello cannot remain just a silent accompaniment somewhere in the back. In his "Prussian" quartet, Mozart therefore gives the cello an unusually prominent role and creates an elegant conversation out of the four instruments, where each voice has its place. The music feels light and natural, but underneath the surface is full of small details, wit and sophistication.
Musicians sometimes nickname this quartet "Violet". Do you know why? The nickname was created after Mozart's song Das Veilchen, i.e. The Violet, because the beginning of the second movement is strikingly reminiscent of this song. 🌸

While Mozart seems like a classy conversation in a salon, Janáček sounds almost like the overheard emotions of a person who can no longer hide obsession, desire or nervousness. Rather than a concert, the listener at times has the feeling that he is reading someone's diary that should never have been published. Janáček wrote it under the influence of his relationship with Kamila Stösslová, a married woman almost forty years younger, with whom he exchanged hundreds of letters over the years. Janáček was fascinated by human speech. He wrote down the rhythm of sentences, special intonations and emotions in the voices of the people around him. In the composition, therefore, the music acts almost like a live conversation. And it is the viola that often represents Kamila's voice, which returns again and again to Janáček's musical world. ✉️

After a break, Béla Bartók and his explosive String Quartet No. 5 will come. Music that won't let you sit still. Not surprisingly, Bartók traveled through villages in Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and the Balkans, recording folk singers and then transforming their music into his own musical language. In his fifth quartet, you will hear rhythms reminiscent of a wild dance, but also the sounds of nature, tension and unexpected musical twists, which seem to deliberately deny the listeners solid ground under their feet. 🌩️
And the famous "Bartók pizzicato" will not be missing either - the moment when the players pluck the string so hard that it hits the fingerboard of the instrument. ⚡

✨ Come and listen to what four loops can tell. From Mozart's elegance to Janáček's intimacy to Bartók's unrestrainedness.
