About the film:
Marian De Santis, the fictitious Italian president, has one last difficult decision to make before leaving office. He has two pardon applications and one controversial law on the table. He is assisted by his daughter Dorotea, who is a lawyer just like him and sacrificed her life for him.
The president's search for the best solution is interspersed with his memories of his beloved wife, who left him forever a few years ago. And I also suspect that she was unfaithful to him.
Mercy is a drama about love, doubts and responsibility. For his portrayal of President Volpi, Toni Servillo won the cup for best actor at the Venice IFF and is nominated for the European Film Award. (ASFK)
