About event

“Glorious Summer” was screened in competition at the 20th Polish film festival filmPOLSKA in Berlin and Potsdam in September 2025. The film premiered at the SXSW Film Festival and recently won the Saphire Lions for Best Film in the Perspectives competition at the Gdynia Film Festival.

Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, beyond space and time, a castle is crumbling. It only has three residents who, at first glance, lead a carefree life wrapped in light clothing and blinding light in constantly summery weather. But there is something else. A voice that sets the pace from every corner of the house - explaining how good the girls are having it, while they have to give regular accounts.

But in the few moments in which the young women feel unobserved, they practice for the emergency - for the moment when they leave this place. Because despite all the idyll, it is not clear whether it is paradise or a strictly controlled prison - brainwashing included.
In formally reduced scenes that only gradually reveal their secrets, the apparent utopia slowly tips over into a dystopia and thus develops into a parable about carrots and sticks, methods of punishment and the subtle installation of a totalitarian apparatus. [Rainer Mende]
