About event
Aftermath to the 20th edition of the Polish Film Festival
Drama, D: Korek Bojanowski, PL 2024, 98 min, OmeU
Introduction: Bartek Tesarz (Polish Institute Berlin)
The film begins with a quote from a university professor: “I have to rape you so that life doesn’t rape you.” So you get an early idea of what it's all about - hierarchies in the education system and how easy it is to abuse them. We experience this using the example of a group of young people who are about to complete their acting studies at the Łódź Film School. They want to stage “Lady Macbeth” on their own; the performance will decide their professional future.
The experienced Jacek will be available to support the students. He is well connected and promises the young talent a big performance in a renowned theater - which automatically puts him in a position of power. He exploits this unscrupulously by manipulating the actors, playing them off against each other and pushing them to their limits both mentally and physically - supposedly for educational reasons. How long have you been playing this game?
Poland had a #metoo case at the Łódź Film School in 2021, which attracted a lot of media attention and is being filmed here. The focus is not on the perpetrator and his motivation, but on the victims. Some still unknown young talents - especially Nel Kaczmarek as the protagonist Maja - also have the chance to prove their skills in front of the camera. [Rainer Mende]

Once a month, the audience has the opportunity to see a film from the competition or the “Panorama” series that they were unable to see during the festival week in September or would like to experience again. Of course, the screenings also offer the opportunity to get to know the filmPOLSKA festival and its organizers.
