About event

The beautiful Wednesday, presented by Radio Eins:

cinema premiere the Möllner letters

In the presence of the director, the protagonist and the film team. Elstermann

The highly topical documentary of the multi -award -winning director tells the stories of the victims and survivors of the racist arson attacks in Mölln in 1992 and the great solidarity that remained hidden in Hidden. The 7-year-old boy survived the fire, but tragically lost his sister, his cousin and his grandmother. Subsequently, the city received hundreds of solidarity letters that were archived and has been forgotten for almost three decades. Interwoven with İbrahim's moving memory trip and his encounters with three letter writers, these long -forgotten messages form an impressive visual bridge between past and the present. The film accompanies İbrahim and his siblings and draws a sensitive portrait of continuing trauma, which still shapes its life. Through his struggle against racism and commitment to the victims, İbrahim found a way to channel his pain. His brother Namık, on the other hand, is still fighting with the emotional scars of the past.

The Möllner letters not only heard more to the survivors and families of the victims, but also tells of the great solidarity and compassion, which was addressed to the families according to the attacks in letters and condolences. It was not until 2020 that these letters, written by adults and children, were discovered in the archive of the city of Mölln. They were never forwarded to the families.
