About event
We invite you to the finishing and guided tour of the Lub Mikle B. 1. S. exhibition on Friday, October 18 at 5 p.m.
The author will guide you through the exhibition.
The second solo exhibition of Lub Mikle at the White & Weiss Gallery bears the mysterious name B. 1 S.. Mikle loves abbreviations, we could safely call not only the exhibition, but also the path that Mikle traveled in ten years, B. 1 S. (Brečtanova 1 Story) he did not leave the studio on Brečtanová, if we do not count his regular stays in Australia, where we will use the abbreviation A. 10 S. – Australia 10 Story. The public perceives Mikle mainly through his entrances into the public space, where he presents himself with large-scale sculptures. At the B. 1 S. exhibition at the White & Weiss Gallery, he will present his more intimate creations.
The unmistakable external distinguishing feature of Mikle's creations are metal and recycled materials. The other two signs, philosophical and intimate, the author hides from us. He leaves them as a mysterious puzzle for the perceptive viewer. Each sculpture thus becomes a material side effect of his inner world. His sculptures often express the contrast between the industrial hardness of the material and the delicate poetics of the forms. Mikle is an author with a rich inner world, with a developed imagination, with which he revives recycled materials.
Mikle is an active and recognized artist who can reach audiences on different continents with his works. In 2023, he won the prestigious NordArt prize for the impressive oversized work KUVYT. NordArt, one of the largest contemporary art exhibitions in Europe, takes place every year in Büdelsdorf, Germany. Mikle's winning work was created during the pandemic as an urgent need to provide a different perspective on a world gripped by fear. His large-scale works and projects are also appreciated in Australia, where Mikle regularly presents at important art events such as Sculpture by theSea and Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail. Sculpture by the Sea on Bondi Beach is one of the largest outdoor sculpture exhibitions in the world.
Lubo Mikle was born in Bratislava in 1982. In the years 2000-2006 he studied with prof. Juraj Meliš at the Department of Sculpture, object, installation at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. He works mainly with the medium of sculpture, sound object and installation. In his work, he combines elements of recycling with industrial motifs, destruction with transformation and construction, his sculptures often have a monumental scale. He lives and works in Bratislava and Sydney.
