Everything will be fine. Perhaps. Certainly. Just have to. A bit of optimism and a bit of hope are extremely valuable in difficult times - even for a self-confessed melancholic like Florian Paul and his band of last hope consisting of Nils Wrasse, Giuliano Loli and Johannes Rothmoser. The band and the charismatic 29-year-old singer with the warm, smoky voice have built up a steadily growing fan base over the past five years with melancholy love songs and other night pieces between jazz, pop and film music and have long been among the most exciting and creative representatives of the German-speaking singer-songwriter scene. With “Everything is getting better” you are taking an important step forward. The new program is a response to its predecessor “Build on Sand,” which was shaped by the Corona pandemic, a farewell to the general and private lows of those years and at the same time a continuation of the euphoric groove of titles like “Bella Maria,” with which the band caused enthusiasm. No more world-weariness: “I would say that we now have a spirit of optimism,” says Paul. And it is clearly audible.
Nevertheless, as a studied film composer, Florian Paul remains true to his narrative style, the dark blue-tinted, thoughtful images from dark hours, with nostalgia and the memory of bygone times and the dream of a happier tomorrow. The latter is the central motif in “Everything gets better”. You can't stop dreaming. Then maybe everything won't be okay. But better.
