moss kissing presents
Folk Archives & Owning without Authorship
with special guest Kaya Vieira Freeman

~

moss kissing returns to segundas na z to present a performance-lecture exploring ideas around Folk music/culture as a way of archiving. He'll talk about themes of ownership in Folk cultures, how can we claim folk when there is no author? As well as how folk is used as identity, through shared stories and gestures. Presenting work alongside moss will be Kaya Vieira Freeman ”Chuva”, a singer, musician and visual artist, who explores Fado through a contemporary lens.

moss kissing is from Cornwall and now lives in Portugal. His music encompasses a wide range of sonic possibilities; he established himself as an energetic live post-club act whilst balancing more ambient offerings. Currently, he is exploring his voice, combining with scattered pianos and strings that he has pulled from his audio-graphic library - a key component to his approach to practice as research. @moss_kissing

Kaya Vieira Freeman ”Chuva” - singer, musician and visual artist - discovers her passion for Fado when she is 17. She then starts an ongoing process of developing her relationship with this music rooted in her mothers country, creating collaborations with different musicians. Singing her late grandfather's music she understands the power of being a vector for other peoples saudade ‘longing’, a cry facing the ocean. Alongside ‘1000 murmurs’, she creates contemplative durational music spaces, where sound becomes a home, and where time seems to stop. Kaya Vieira Freeman will present her project she created with Giorgio Gristina called 10 fados to a modal wave, a project around fado and modular waves. @blackbirdkaya
